How are steel pipes categorized according to production methods and materials?

As modern industry and automation continue to develop, the demand for high-quality industrial inspection and control is increasing. Steel pipes are a common product in industrial inspections.

First, according to the production method

The production method categorises pipes into two types: seamless steel pipes and welded steel pipes.

1. Seamless steel pipes are made from either carbon steel or alloy steel and can be produced through hot rolling, cold rolling (drawing), or extrusion.

Depending on the production method, seamless steel pipes can be classified as hot rolled, cold drawn, precision, hot expanded, cold rolled, or extruded pipes. They are commonly used in industries such as liquid and gas transportation.

2. Welded steel pipes are formed by rolling steel plates into tubes and welding or creating a spiral seam. Welded steel pipes are formed by rolling steel plates into tubes and welding or creating a spiral seam. They are commonly used for water, gas, heating, and electrical systems.

The welding process can be divided into three types: furnace welding pipe, electric welding (resistance welding) pipe, and automatic arc welding pipe.

There are two forms of welding: straight seam welded pipe and spiral welded pipe.

The shape of the end can be either round welded pipe or shaped (square, flat, etc.) welded pipe.

The manufacturing method is divided into several types, including low-pressure fluid transportation with welded steel pipe, spiral welded steel pipe, direct coil welded steel pipe, and electric welded pipe.

Second, according to the material

The different types of steel pipes are categorized based on their material composition.

Carbon pipes are further divided into ordinary carbon steel pipes and carbon structural pipes.

Alloy pipes are classified as low alloy pipes, alloy structural pipes, high alloy pipes, and high strength pipes. These include carbon pipes, alloy pipes, and stainless steel pipes. Other types of steel pipes include bearing tubes, heat-resistant and acid-resistant stainless steel tubes, precision alloys (such as logging alloys) tubes, and high-temperature alloy tubes.
